Style Guide: Pattern Mixing

Monday, February 27, 2017

It's already the end of February! It's crazy how fast this year has been going. One of the things I've been doing is experimenting more with my outfit choices. It's so fun to see how much my style has changed since I first launched my blog in 2015. A trend that I've always wanted to try was pattern mixing. I guess it's because of how striking and bold other people's pattern mixing was, it made me a bit hesitant on trying it. So as the title says, this is a little style guide with 2 outfits that show how I would mix patterns.

Outfit 1
I wore an embroidered shirt I received from ROMWE last year with a denim patchwork skirt from Zara. I decided to pair it with black tights and over the knee boots as a way to transition to the spring weather since it was fairly cold the day I took the photos!

Shoes - Le Chateau (similar)

Outfit 2

I'm obsessed with the asymmetrical silhouette for the skirt! They had a similar one at Zara that sold out during their sale so when I saw this one on SheIn's website, I was excited to receive it. The plaid design is very faint so it's not a very noticeable pattern mixing like the first outfit. I decided to go for a bolder pattern and wear a sheer floral top.

A Harry Situation

Thursday, February 23, 2017
I'm so excited to share this review (as I am when I usually write one) because it's all about a men's razor company, Harry's. Yes, you read that correctly, men's razor company. I'm not going to lie, I was really confused when I read that that a men's company wanted to work with me but I also heard so many times about how men's razors are much better than women's (and cheaper but I think a lot of us know that, sadly).

After learning more about the brand, I was excited to try out their products! I chose to get the Winston Set. They have two different ones: Truman and Winston. The main difference is that Truman has a better grip for shower shaving but other than that, it's the same blade as the Winston set so really it's more of an aesthetic preference. I love getting things monogrammed. Although, I don't have anything else monogrammed, it's something I want to do all the time; whether it's a scarf, wallet, necklace, etc. if monogramming is an option, I'm sold on it. The Winston Set had an engravable option so I knew right away which one I wanted.

The packaging was aesthetically pleasing and all packaged nicely in the shave set. It came with a foaming shave gel, extra blades, travel case and the razor itself. The shave gel has a more masculine scent but I thought I'd try it out anyways! It smells fabulous actually and exactly like the men's cologne every female I know loves. It comes out as a gel but once you lather it on, it becomes foam. I don't know about you but products like that always fascinate me. As for the razor, it has 5 blades and a rubberized grip for control.

I ended up using the shaving gel for my legs since I obviously wouldn't be using it on my face. It's definitely not as effective as I would've liked it to be. Since the gel turns into a foam, the consistency is a bit thicker that you normally see with men's facial shaving. It wasn't anything like the more soapy kind of products that are available to women.

I decided to try shower shaving with the foam to see if it made any difference. Since the Winston razor isn't made with as strong of a grip like the Truman razor, I was still able to use it with ease. I found that using the gel in the shower was much more effective. It gives off a very close shave and the masculine scent doesn't linger as long as if you didn't use it in the shower.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this razor so thank you so much to Harry's for sending it! Hope you enjoyed today's post :)

Styling Fur Vests (ft. My Mom)

Monday, February 20, 2017

My mom has been wanting me to feature her on my blog pretty much since she first found out about my blog. I don't tend to feature someone on my blog just because. I'm really picky when it comes to what I want featured, etc. so even though she's my mother, I couldn't just have any kind of post. Considering I love style posts, I decided to have one styling fur vests. My mom actually owns a couple of gorgeous ones and both of the ones you'll see in this post are actually hers.

Outfit 1

For my outfit, I wanted to do something different than my normal 'fur vest over a turtleneck' look. Since the fur vest is grey, I thought it'd be great to layer it on top of a light grey wool coat. I went simple with the sweater I got but opted for embroidered jeans I got recently at Express! They're actually in the clearance section and with the additional 50%, I ended up getting it for $24 with tax!

Fur Vest - Danier (old)
Coat - StyleWe
Pants - Express

Outfit 2
I LOVE my mom's outfit so much. Without the fur vest, it's a monochromatic look. I love that one of the colours in the fur vest match her sweater and pants tying the look together but then the other (and more noticeable) colours in the vest stand out a lot.

Outfit Details
Fur Vest - Stradivarius (old)
Sweater - Winners
Cape - ASOS (old)
Pants - Zara (old)

Love and Bell Sleeves | Valentine's Day Inspiration 2017

Sunday, February 12, 2017

Happy Sunday everyone! Since Valentine's Day is coming up in a couple of days, I thought I'd post on Sunday instead of Monday. Mikayla, Carolina and I all received the same sweater in different colours and since they so happened to be the colours for Valentine's, we thought it'd be perfect to take photos together for some outfit inspiration!

For my outfit, I went pretty simple and paired it with white jeans. To make it a bit more fancy, I wore a statement necklace from "Gifted", a boutique in New Jersey. I also paired it with my sparkly silver flats from ASOS to tie the look together with the necklace. This outfit is perfect for a night out (and keeps you warm).

Mikayla's outfits are always super girly and feminine so it's no surprise she wore a pink midi skirt with her bell sleeve sweater! She wore Valentino-inspired heels to finish the look so I think her look is perfect if you're going fancy for Valentine's!

Finally, Carolina wore the sweater in a dusty rose colour. She wore a denim button up skirt along with the cutest white sheer polka dot tights. I would definitely wear her outfit on a cute movie date for Valentines :)

Hope you got some Valentine's inspo from all 3 of us! Be sure to look at Carolina's and Mikayla's blog for their other Valentine's Day looks.

Leave a comment down below what you're doing to celebrate Valentine's Day/what colour of the bell sleeve sweater you would wear :)

1 Item, 3 Ways: Cowl Neck Sweater

Monday, February 6, 2017

If you're like me, there's probably those same few sweaters you live in throughout the winter. I know for a fact I consistently wear the same 3 cashmere sweaters and Zara marled knit turtleneck pretty much every week. Not going to lie, I used to wear the exact same outfit at least once a week but now that I've fully embraced the fashion blogger in me, I've made more of an effort this winter season to style my winter staples in more ways.

Outfit 1

This sleeveless peacoat I got from ASOS last year for my birthday has been by far my favourite piece to wear in fall and winter. It's such a great layering piece and since it's wool, there's some added warmth to it all. I paired it with faux leather pants to add some texture to the overall outfit (like I usually do) and my go-to booties!

Outfit Details
Sweater - Hollister
Peacoat - ASOS (old)
Pants - Zara
Shoes - Zara

Outfit 2

I am 100% obsessed with this pleated skirt I received for Christmas from Joe Fresh's x Flare's collection! It also doesn't feel like plastic like other metallic pleated skirts I've come across. I love the darker shade as well as opposed to silver because it's not as dramatic which makes it easier to style.

Outfit Details
Sweater - Hollister
Skirt - Joe Fresh x Flare (old. similar)
Jacket - Zara
Shoes - Zara

Outfit 3

This outfit actually was put together last minute. In my weekly vlog I posted back in December when I went to watch The Illusionists show with my little sister (thanks to my older sister by the way for the tickets), I took my NYE photos that same day. Since I was wearing fancier pieces, I took the most casual pieces from each outfit and put them together and voila, that is the outfit!

Outfit Details
Sweater - Hollister
Blazer -  H&M
Pants - Topshop
Shoes - Zara
Let me know which outfit was your favourite :)
