An Angelic Night with Mugler

Monday, May 30, 2016

If you're a blogger on Twitter, you've probably heard of Dave Lackie! He's Cityline's beauty expert and constantly is running (international) giveaways for beauty lovers. Since Cityline is Canadian, he frequently has contests for special events that are usually in Toronto. Recently, he chose 20 people in Ontario to take part in Mugler's event that was featuring their latest fragrance: Angel Muse. (Get the blog post title now?). Anyways, I was chosen along with my friend Dal (who has been featured on my blog already!) so we decided to go together. It was great knowing that I'd be attending with someone I met already.

  • The event took place in the heart of Toronto in a gorgeous venue. If you don't know, Mugler is a high end brand that sells clothing, fragrance, handbags, etc. created by French designer, Thierry Mugler. I was introduced to Mugler because of one of my long time favourite bloggers, Kristina Bazan (aka Kayture). She usually attends Mugler's show during fashion week so I started to like the brand that way. She also was featured in a film with them that I absolutely loved.

The night started off with cocktails and networking. Dal and I enjoyed walking around the set up they had where they brought in clothes from their recent show. My favourite was the black and white ensemble that I'll show below.

Following that we had an INCREDIBLE gourmet dinner with the most gorgeous set up. I ended up taking the centerpiece home and all my friends on Snapchat were like "What's with you and the plant?" because I was the happiest gal ever when I got it. I did spill water absolutely everywhere on my commute home - it was a very clutzy day for me haha

Mugler was kind enough to give everyone a bottle of Angel Muse (which honestly smells amazing and I seriously didn't think anything could compare to my Fossil 1954 perfume). They also gave us an exclusive lipstick that isn't sold anywhere and a Mugler phone case.

I also ended up meeting a bunch of bloggers which was so nice and I hope to see them again! For my first event like this, it was SUCH an amazing time and hope to attend more in the future :)

I kept this a bit short mainly because of how many photos I wanted to share but hope you enjoyed it and definitely recommend you get your chance to smell their new fragrance in store!

    Co-ordinate Your Wardrobe

    Thursday, May 26, 2016
If you've been reading my blog for a while, you'd know that I love matching sets/co-ordinates with a passion. They're versatile and utterly adorable. I thought for this mini lookbook, I'd show 3 different ways of wearing one co-ordinate set--one with both pieces and then one outfit with each piece. I purchased this one from H&M almost a couple of years ago now (mainly because I fell in love with it when I saw Taylor Swift wearing it - love her affordable fashion taste!)

    Outfit 1

  • This one was a last minute outfit I put together. Since I wore a plain top with the skirt, I wanted to try something a bit different by adding another statement piece (which would be the gorgeous embellished detachable collar). It was an experimental outfit but I definitely felt the Iris Apfel vibes of putting together pieces you wouldn't normally think of; if only I had a similar pair of glasses.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Zara
  • Skirt - H&M
  • Collar - ASOS
  • Shoes - Urban Outfitters
  • Outfit 2

  • I'm one of those people who think a leather jacket makes everything edgier. I usually have a girly, feminine and classy taste in clothes so this is probably one of my most "edgiest" looks.

  • Top - H&M
  • Jacket - Zara
  • Pants - American Eagle
  • Necklace - Gifted (boutique in New Jersey)
  • Shoes - Aldo
  • Earrings - Bauble Bar
  • Outfit 3

  • Since the design on the matching set was a statement enough, I decided not to go overboard with accessories. I ended up pairing it with the same ombre ear jackets from the previous outfit!

    Spring Lookbook 2016

    Sunday, May 22, 2016
I've been working on a Spring Lookbook for a while but good ol' Toronto weather was bipolar and decided to snow in April! The good news is that this Spring Lookbook is a collab with Mikayla from MAK Style. We both did a spring lookbook and decided to show a total of 3 outfits from each of us so that makes 6 AMAZING outfit ideas that you can get inspo from!

    Outfit 1

  • I absolutely love this outfit. It's colourful and just screams spring. My top is very soft and loose so it's a comfortable fit. Since spring weather can get a bit chilly, my trench coat from Zara is perfect. I also finally got to wear my lace-up flats but they do hurt after a while so I don't recommend spending a day walking in them because they are pointed more than you'd think.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Anthropologie
  • Trench Coat - Zara
  • Pants - Hollister
  • Necklace - BaubleBar
  • Shoes - Zara
  • Outfit 2

  • When Mikayla changed into this outfit, I was OBSESSED. It's a gorgeous two-piece floral matching set that is perfect for spring. She kept it casual with the ankle boots but you can totally dress it up with some heels if you wanted to wear it to a formal event!
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Lulus
  • Skirt - Lulus
  • Shoes - H&M
  • Outfit 3

  • I was really happy with how this outfit turned out! If look at the outfit details, the collar and the white top are actually separate pieces. I love that it looked like it was all one piece. When I asked my boyfriend to help me take off the collar, he was so surprised that I created that one piece illusion.
  • Outfit Details
  • Sweater - ROMWE
  • White Top - Hollister
  • Collar - ASOS
  • Jacket - Zara
  • Jeans - American Eagle
  • Shoes - Converse
  • Be sure to check out Mikayla's blog for our collab post and her other social media: Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest for more :)

    STYLE MUSE: Olivia Palermo

    Thursday, May 19, 2016
All you fashion lovers must have heard of Olivia Palermo. She's practically the queen of fashion. I love how versatile her style is and how she manages to pull off every look. I thought I'd do a style muse post on her spring style so it's a mix of some of her recent outfits and other favourite spring looks! For me, she's very experimental without going too crazy. It's exactly how I am when I'm experimenting with different trends that I'm not 100% comfortable with. Olivia is probably one of the only people where I love pretty much every single outfit they wear so I figured I would do that now!

    Outfit 1

  • "Florals in spring? Groundbreaking" <- How can you not think of that Devil Wears Prada quote when you think about florals during spring? Anyways, Olivia takes a verstable denim shirt and paired it with a midi floral skirt but my favourite part is the bright pink clutch she wore. It ties the entire outfit together and takes it to a whole new level than a neutral coloured bag. (Side note: Oddly enough, I couldn't find a pink floral pencil skirt!)
  • Outfit Details
  • Shirt - Forever21
  • Skirt - New Look
  • Outfit 2

  • This outfit is pretty classic, white dress shirt and ripped skinny jeans but she spices it up by wearing colourful shoes and a light coloured overpiece.
  • Outfit Details
  • Shirt - H&M
  • Cardigan - Charlotte Russe
  • Pants - H&M
  • Shoes - Aldo
  • Outfit 3

  • If anyone could pull off denim on denim, it's Olivia. Whenever there is a trend I'm uncertain of trying, once I see Olivia's take on it, I'M SOLD.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Forever21
  • Skirt - H&M
  • Shoes - Le Chateau
  • Belt - ASOS
  • Outfit 4

  • I love the subtle pattern mixing she's done here. Both items are stripes but the pants have a smaller stripes around the thicker navy on whereas the top's pattern repeat is just alternating black and white stripes, of the same size.
  • Outfit Details
  • Shirt - Forever21
  • Pants - Zara (alternative)
  • Shoes - Forever21
  • Outfit 5

  • Off the shoulder tops have been a huge trend for spring and summer! I love the simple pieces she's wearing and how the statement pieces are all in the embellished shoes and bright coloured handbag. What I love most about the off the shoulder top she's wearing is how unique the sleeves are. They're not bell-sleeves or ruffles exactly but the puffy effect looks very elegant the way she wears it.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Zara
  • Pants - H&M
  • Shoes - ASOS

    Fashion for a Cause: #IAMDYNAMITE

    Monday, May 16, 2016
Dynamite Clothing is one of my go-to stores for workwear! Their dress pants are my absolute favourite and I've worn it all throughout high school for my uniform and they always my interview pants. Lately I've been loving their spring and summer collection which I will be featuring in this post but what I love even more about them is their #IAMDYNAMITE campaign they started in September 2015. This movement is to encourage women to be confident and passionate. Your life changes when you find that confidence in yourself and when you're not afraid to go for you dreams. Since Dynamite is a women's brand, this movement is somewhat tailored towards women but everyone can really take something from the overall message that they are trying to send out.

Dynamite has showcased 3 Canadian women: Fafa Khan, Iris Campo, and Carly Argo. Each woman has a short video and short biography about them on Dynamite's website that demonstrate their story and why they are considered empowering and inspiring women. I wanted to help spread the word of this campaign as part of my "Fashion for a Cause" series.

With that being said, my gorgeous romper is from Dynamite! It was only fitting to use their clothing for this post. As much as I love other stores, Dynamite pieces tend to stay in my closet for years. They have a bunch of classic items and it's affordable compared to other places. Definitely go for their dress pants if you've never bought something from them before :)

    Outfit Details
  • Romper - Dynamite
  • Sleeveless Blazer - Winners
  • Shoes - Urban Outfitters
  • Hope you enjoyed this post and didn't notice that my legs were covered with goosebumps! With the wind chill, the weather was only 2-3 degrees Celsius!

    An Irresistible Spring Day

    Thursday, May 12, 2016
I guess I could say spring is here in Toronto...it's been really on and off. Really cold some days and really warm other days but I was lucky the day I'm about to share with you was a mix of sun and a bit of wind. I decided to use my auto-rotating curler (from Irresistible Me this day for a walk around High Park. Like I mentioned before, you can really achieve any look you want with this curling iron. For this look, I went for simple soft waves. To achieve that look, I recommend keeping it on a low temperature. I usually use 340°F for the curls I normally have but for this look, I use the lowest temperature OR use 340°F but only hold each section I curl for a few seconds.

As for the outfit itself, I've been loving pink and blue together. Hence why I decided to wear this particular outfit in front of a magnolia tree. (Also prepare for a very pink and blue Instagram feed) Whenever I take outfit photos, I always have a location in mind before taking them. Chambray shirts are perfect for any time of the year; it's a very transitional piece so it's really easy to wear it any season.
    Outfit Details
  • Top - Gap
  • Skirt - Forever21
  • Necklace - Gifted (boutique in New Jersey)
  • Sunglasses - EyeBuyDirect
  • I apologize for the lack of photos for this post! Since the weather in Toronto is bipolar, there's no cherry blossoms at High Park (like there normally is) so the only photogenic tree there was this single magnolia tree aka EVERYONE was there taking photos! Also, I recently started a full-time summer job so I'll try to keep up with 2-3 posts/week but if not, I'm planning on 1/week for sure.

Get to Know Me: Liebster Award 2.0

    Monday, May 9, 2016
The lovely Taylor from Taylor Talks XO nominated me for the Liebster Award. She nominated me back in April but it was pretty close to my other tag posts so I thought I'd do this one later. Basically, you thank the person you nominated, answer the questions they wrote in their post and then nominate bloggers and come up with your own questions! I connected with Taylor over Twitter (as I do with 99% of my blogging friends) after she found out I was also a fellow Toronto blogger.

    Now for the questions!

What's your favourite part about blogging and the blogging community?

  • Favourite thing about blogging would be the fact that I'm getting back into old hobbies like photography and also being able to really experiment with my fashion choices. As for the blogging community, I love how everyone is welcoming and supportive. I've heard stories about bloggers who are rude but have never come across any issues like that!
  • How long have you been reading blogs for?

  • I've been reading blogs on and off for about 5 years but it has become more constant now that I've started my own.
  • Do you have a quote that you live by or like to keep in mind?

  • I always have a motivational quote as my lock screen so whenever I check my phone, I always read it. I've had "Get up, dress up, show up but never give up" on my phone for a while (mainly because of school) but lately I've been repeating "Fear less and live a bit more" and "Be fearless in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire"
  • What has been your biggest challenge so far in the blogging world?

  • Definitely trying to make your content unique. It's hard when there are thousands of bloggers and even if it's not your career, it's still something bloggers try to achieve.
  • If you could visit any country or city what would it be?

  • There's too many! I want to travel the world but as of now, I've really wanted to visit Greece and Thailand recently.
  • If you are in or want to go to College/University what program career field are you going for/want to go for?

  • I'm currently in university with a double major in math and art history (VERY DIFFERENT I KNOW). I don't think my career will end up being purely mathematical or art historical. I really want to be able to have a career where I can be both creative and analytical at the same time. Not quite sure what career that would be yet!
  • Whats your favourite makeup brand and why?

  • I don't wear makeup often but I really love NYX. It's affordable and the quality is great.
  • Where do you find most of your inspiration, for blog posts?

  • Pretty much with anything I'm doing. I've gotten inspiration from fashion documentaries, lectures, photographs. I don't think there's one particular way I consistently get inspiration from! It happens when it does.
  • Do you prefer shopping for makeup or clothes?

  • Oh 100% on clothes. I'm more of a drugstore person when it comes to makeup! I don't like to invest a lot of money into a product that I will not be using a lot. Plus, as a fashion blogger, it's the obvious choice right?
  • Whats your favourite clothing store and why?

  • Okay, it's a tie between ASOS and Zara. I can't choose between them. I own more stuff from Zara only because I can't return stuff at ASOS from Canada (shipping costs of course). There's a huge variety at ASOS but I also love that Zara has a wide range of prices and unique styles. Also, ASOS and Zara can be pricey at times but they do carry a lot of affordable items. I'm always happy with the quality with my purchases from both places.
  • If you could tell others new bloggers one thing you have learned so far about blogging what would it be?

  • Don't worry about the numbers or how fast or slow the growth of your blog is. It may be nice to receive free products or have 1000 likes on an Instagram photo but numbers aren't everything. Just be happy with the content you're producing.
  • I've already nominated all my blogging friends for tag posts so instead I'm not going to nominate anyone and ask whoever reads this to comment their answer to this question: What do you think is a unique characteristic about yourself?

    It's Sunnies Season

    Thursday, May 5, 2016
I'm been really excited to receive my sunglasses from EyeBuyDirect. EyeBuyDirect is another online optical store at affordable prices. I saw their sunglasses everywhere on my Instagram feed and decided to contact them for a collaboration because of the variety they had. They were kind enough to send me a pair of sunglasses (to review) and even add my prescription on it! On my VERY first blog post, I mentioned how I don't invest in expensive sunglasses because they didn't have my prescription on it so it would be pointless since I need to wear glasses all the time. I was extremely happy when EyeBuyDirect said they would be able to do that.
They have the most adorable collection so it was really hard to choose a pair but I ended up going with Penelope in Tribal Green since that's a sunglasses shape I've been dying to get my hands on but could never find an affordable one. As for prices, they range from $27-$92 (without prescription). The cost of everything (with prescription) was $162 and if anyone who has experience with getting prescription glasses, would know that is extremely affordable; you can easily spend $400+ on frames and lenses.
My favourite thing about EyeBuyDirect are all the options they had. I ended up going with a silver mirrored lens, anti-reflective coating and a UV coating (obviously). As for shipping, they give you updates for EVERYTHING and it's so great. They'll email you with every status, like when the lens are being cut, frame fitting, etc. I think I got 4 or 5 status update emails and as soon as they ship the package, you get it within 1-3 business days. I ended up getting it the next day which was really quick. I wasn't expecting them for a couple of weeks.
The sunglasses were kept in a brown box that acted as the case for the sunglasses and inside, they had the sunglasses, a screwdriver for adjustments and a soft case. I really like the screwdriver; it has a Phillips screw drive on one end and a flat blade on the other side. After looking at the sunglasses, I totally fell in love with them. They were perfect in shape and size and the quality was amazing. As I mentioned, I chose silver mirrored lens but they definitely didn't look silver (unless you took a photo of it at an angle). They still look great and I am satisfied with it either way but a tad disappointed that it wasn't what I expected.
Since this is my first time owning a pair of prescription sunglasses, I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to vision. It feels weird being able to see in sunglasses for the first time ever. Since I knew my PD (pupillary distance) was measured correctly (after measuring it for my Firmoo review), I knew it would fit perfectly, which it did when I tried on. I wore it for the first time when I was taking photos for my "Choker Revival" post I did for Fashion Canada and after a while, it started to slip off my face, not so much that it became too loose though which was good. I've worn it a few times after that and had no problems so it was probably the heat that day!
Overall, I would definitely purchase a pair of sunglasses from them. Superb quality and a variety of choices for everyone! I would give them a 4.5/5 overall rating. The only reason it wasn't a 5 was because of the not so silver looking mirrored lens. Also, expect to see them in a lot of my spring/summer posts :) I'm thinking of getting this or this pair next, what are your thoughts?

Top 10 Best Dressed: Met Gala 2016

    Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Pretty much the most important fashion event of the year took place last night in New York City: The Met Gala. If you don't know what it is, it's a glamorous event in the fashion industry that celebrates the newest exhibition in the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each year, there's a new theme where the attendees of the Met Gala dress up something related to said theme. This year's theme was: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.

If you've been following my blog for a while, I was pretty stoked about this year's theme and wrote a blog post of what I was hoping to see on the red carpet. So for this post, I am showing you my top 10 best dressed for the Met Gala. I'll be showing my top 5 who followed the theme and top 5 that didn't. I remember last year's Met Gala, I was reading through publications' best dressed list but a lot of the people didn't even follow the theme at all so this year I'm making my own list. They don't even need to follow the theme literally but incorporate it somehow.

I was pretty much looking through the Met Gala hashtags just hoping for some sneak peeks and even made a separate stream on Hootsuite to keep an eye on everything. I will admit that I was disappointed in a lot of the outfits. I felt that this year's theme had so much potential for innovation and creativity and people associated technology with silver mainly. I was anxiously waiting for Iris Van Herpen 3D printed designs but THERE WAS NONE OF THAT. So it was really hard to put together a best dressed list for the "followed the theme" section.

    5) Karlie Kloss

  • Okay, I know she didn't follow the theme with her dress but her clutch seems like it lit up so I mean, give me a break. I wasn't feeling the cape but I did love the cutouts. It was revealing but compared to past looks, it seemed more covered up!
  • A photo posted by @karliekloss on

    4) Freida Pinto

  • COLOUR CHANGING CRYSTALS. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the dress initially but once I found out the crystals changed colours, I definitely started to like it more. It only changes from white to deep blue but hey, still pretty awesome nonetheless.
  • A photo posted by Tory Burch (@toryburch) on

    3) Thalia

  • When the arm is lit up, Thalia looks like a total bad-ass. Out of all the silver/metallic looks, Thalia definitely had the best one in my opinion.
  • 1) Claire Danes and Karolina Kurkova

  • CLAIRE WAS THE MYSTERY GIRL IN ZAC POSEN'S DRESS. I knew Zac Posen wouldn't disappoint. I mentioned the dress he made with Made with Code before! He had an LED dress that Coco Rocha worn but he took it to the next level with his Met Gala gown for Claire. Radiant. Stunning. Flawless. Honestly a Cinderella meets Technology moment. As for Karolina, once I saw her tweet a photo, I fell in love! It was a subtle way to incorporate the theme but it was absolutely stunning. I knew immediately she'd be on my best dressed list. They were tied in my books. I couldn't choose which one I loved more; Claire's look went above and beyond with having fiber optics but Karolina's was like a fairy tale as well. So Claire, Karolina, Zac Posen, Marchesa and IBM, you guys killed it (not like they'll ever read this though ahah)
  • A video posted by @zacposen on

Now for the people who didn't follow the theme (or at least I couldn't tell that they did) but still looked incredibly gorgeous are:

    5) Nicole Kidman

  • I loved the black starry night vibes I get from this dress
  • 4) Blake Lively

  • She just always looks stunning.
  • A photo posted by Burberry (@burberry) on

    3) Emma Roberts

  • Love love love the ombré effect. Although Emma's dress was designed by Tory Burch (like Freida's), hers didn't have colour changing crystals sadly. The geometric designs were lovely though!
  • A photo posted by Tory Burch (@toryburch) on

    2) Naomie Harris

  • I didn't know who Naomie was before the Met Gala but once I saw her tweet a photo of her dress, I fell in love! It's a gorgeous Burberry design and she looks incredible in it!
  • A photo posted by Burberry (@burberry) on

    1) Nina Dobrev

  • She looked like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I always look forward to her red carpet looks because she never fails to amaze me!
  • Overall, I was quite disappointed that there was a lack of creativity and innovation in the designs for most of the attendees. The possibilities for this theme were really endless so it was a shame that 'fashion x technology' meant metallic and silver for a lot of people. Hopefully I'll get to see the costume exhibit myself this summer and be truly inspired by the theme that way!

PS: If I ever went to a Met Gala, IBM, Marchesa and Zac Posen, can you please style me?

Who was on your best-dressed list at the Met Gala? Leave your blog link below if you wrote one or just a comment telling me who you loved :)

    $50 Outfit Challenge: Spring Edition

    Monday, May 2, 2016
I am beyond excited for this post because it is a collab done with Dal from Little Beauty Loves Since I'm more of a fashion blogger and Dal is more of a beauty blogger, it was hard coming up with a collab post. So on my blog, I decided to try and put together a $50 outfit for spring and on Dal's blog, she did a $50 dollar makeup and hair look for spring. I'm so glad this is FINALLY going up because we actually met up in the middle of March but due the bad weather and busy school schedules, I couldn't take my photos until after my exams were done!

Putting together a $50 outfit was pretty challenging. I didn't include shoes because I think it'd be nearly impossible to get a decent outfit and I didn't want to purchase a cheap pair for the sake of it.

For the skirt, I used the one I wore in this post but am marking it as Forever21's price of $30 because they are pretty much the exact same. There's also so many other patchwork denim skirts this year so I didn't feel a need to buy another denim one. A couple of favourites of mine are: this one from Zara and this one from H&M. As for the top, since I had $20 left (and I wanted it to be different from my previous post), I got this white off the shoulder top from this year's H&M x Coachella collection. It's also great that separately, these pieces are very versatile so you can come up with plenty of other outfits (and not worry about breaking the bank!)

Be sure to check out Dal's post here and her other social media links: Twitter, Instagram. Here's a sneak peek of what to expect:

Also, comment down below if you'd like to see a $50 outfit challenge each season!
