How to Wear a Cape in the Winter

Thursday, December 8, 2016
Oh hey guys! Like I said in my previous post, I would be taking a little break while exams are going on BUT I have a surprise post because I was able to take an extra outfit photo last week with Carolina, I thought, why not post it since I have it ready? If you saw my $50 Outfit Challenge: Fall Edition post, you'd know that I've started working with SheIn to bring you some great outfit ideas for affordable prices!
I've always loved capes and ponchos so I was super excited to get this one from SheIn. I love the contrast black trim on it instead of it being just one colour. I also just love to add contrast when it comes to jackets and coats because it gives a subtle detail without being overbearing. Since it is a one-size item, I was nervous if it'd look too big on me. PSA: When you take photos with it on, make sure you don't put your hands in your pocket to avoid looking like you have no arms!
I'm not going to lie, this was a total last minute outfit that I'm so happy with. I usually try on my outfits beforehand but I was in a rush to get to school, I chose one at random and hoped for the best. I'm wearing the same white turtleneck I wore in my fall-to-winter transition post last month (which it will become the "Zara lace top" of winter). Having neutral coloured sweaters are KEY for winter. It's so easy to come up with a bunch of different looks. If you follow along on all social media, I've worn this sweater at least 5 different ways.
The weather's been on and off in Toronto so I was able to get away with wearing a wool hat instead of a beanie. I usually live in beanies during the winter because it covers my ears but opted for a wool hat instead.
As for shoes, I'm sure you've noticed I wear the same Le Chateau over the knee boots but with the new shoes I got (that I showed in my haul video), I thought taupe would tie in nicer than if I wore black.
I wore a necklace from Olivia Palermo's collection with BaubleBar (which if you didn't see, it was absolutely GORGEOUS). Another key piece I love having is my button up skirt from Zara that I got last year. It's been prime to have because like I said, versatile pieces go a long way!

  • Anyways, hope you enjoyed today's winter OOTD! I'm planning on posting a holiday lookbook next Thursday so get ready for that. In the mean time, be sure to catch up on my Youtube videos and follow on Instagram and Twitter! Leave a comment down below what your key pieces are for winter :)
