Unique Ways to Rock This Fall

Monday, October 31, 2016

GOOD MORNING! It's the last day of October and today's post is another guest post. This time it's written by the lovely Jessica Brinley.

My name is Jessica. I am a freelance fashion blogger and I love traveling so for the past 6 years I've enjoyed both my passions by becoming a ghost writer on various fashion blogs and a guest author on others while traveling the world.

As the fall is already here, a big worry is to keep looking good. That time of the year when you’re caught between changing wardrobes, the style meter can actually go down, what is it that keep you looking like you just came out of a designer studio? Some strategizing for sure. So, here are some super smart strategies to look not just good but great this fall.

Vote for the Fur

  • Well, for women, fur has always spelt luxury. But, this fall, it is much more than that, it is a bold statement. Yes, brands like Fendi and Rodarte have come up with some fur statements that are definitely not run-of the-mill. What is even more interesting about fur is the trend in stoles this fall. This time to wear it cross body, and that too in whatever color you want.
  • Welcome Back the Tans, the Khakis, and the Grays

  • Don’t think they’re making you fall somber; they’re just making it classier than ever. Yes, khaki, beige, all shades of tan and grays too are making the fall even more stylish. May it be in sweaters, pants, shirts, dresses, blazers, skirts, bags shoes, or belts, these colors have made a major comeback. So, when you go fall shopping now, you know what you’re going for.
  • Don’t Forget the Handbags

  • What’s pretty in this season are the guitar strap handbags in floral patterns, bright colors, chains, metal embellishments and more. The New York Fashion Week was testimony to this trend and the most top notch makes like Burberry, Lanvin, Fendi and Anya Hindmarch. Apart from these, if you own masterpieces like LV Speedy (the evergreen duffel bag), or the Hermes Birkin, those are likely to work for the fall as well.
  • The Overcoats – There’s a Lot of Option

  • The options for fall 2016 are abundant when it comes to coats. You begin with plaid overcoats, move to the navy overcoats, further to the velvets and end at the pink and yellow. Yes, this is how eclectic it is this time. If you are not the loud type, perhaps the plaids and the navy overcoats will work the best for you. If making statements is your thing, you can choose from the other two styles.
  • Capelets are the Latest Thing

  • This itsy-bitsy style is the latest on the block. Capes may have rules forever but capelets are the new monarchs for the season. Not only do they give you a retro feel, but also make you look edge and stylish. This creation filled with chique goes equally well with dresses, pants, and sweaters. The best haute couture brands like Burberry, Christian Dior, and MSGM. So, here are 5 super smart strategies to look great this fall. But do remember that you need to coordinate these trends with your own unique style. This not only saves you from being a style slave, but also makes you stand a class apart.
  • Go ahead and enjoy this awesome fall!

    Colour in Autumn

    Friday, October 28, 2016

Good morning everyone! For today's post, I thought I'd have a simple OOTD showing you how you can wear pastel colours during fall. Usually a lot of people have a darker colour palette for this time (myself included) but that doesn't mean you shouldn't stop wearing colour!

Now that the weather is getting much colder in Toronto, I tend to wear the same kind of outfit: sweater, collared shirt, statement necklace and jeans. It's the perfect, easy to throw on outfit and it keeps you warm! Statement necklaces make a HUGE difference to your outfit and I totally recommend it when you want it to look like you put in more effort than you actually did.

As for the top, I love wearing a chambray or denim shirt underneath because it adds texture to the outfit versus a plain ol' dress shirt.

My sweater is from H&M that I got last year. I love how bright the colour is but it still screams fall. I actually was hesitant on if this outfit seemed fall-like because of how bright it was but because of the texture in the chambray shirt, I thought it was a good mix.

Now for my FAVOURITE part of the outfit: ROSE GOLD SLIP ONS. I was always loved the rose gold trend that has been huge the last while but I never got anything in that colour. I've been wearing slip on's a lot recently because campus is huge so comfort is key since I'm always walking! You can get these from Union Jack Boots which has a HUGE variety of brands like VANS, Converse, Timberland, etc.

Lastly, it wouldn't feel complete without having a beanie on! I love beanies with either a faux fur pom pom or embellishments. The one I'm wearing is an old one from New Look and they're definitely the comfy and warm ones for me to wear during the colder seasons :)

    Outfit Details
  • Shirt - Forever 21
  • Sweater - H&M (old)
  • Jeans - Topshop
  • Hat - New Look
  • Shoes - Union Jack Boots
  • Necklace - Bauble Bar
  • Thank you so much to Union Jack Boots for sending me these VANs to style! Hope you enjoyed today's #OOTD post and let me know in the comments how you'd style metallic slip ons :)

Lessons from the Upper East Side Part 2

    Thursday, October 27, 2016

If you saw my post from last week, you'd know that I did a collab with Carolina. So here's part 2 of our Blair Waldorf inspired collab :)

    Outfit 2

  • I have never felt so preppy than I have in this outfit! Cloche hats are absolutely adorable - I got this one from H&M a couple of years ago but I do know they still sell them. I couldn't find it online but I have seen it in store recently. The ruffled blouse and navy bottoms totally reminds me of the classic Blair outfit in season one! I paired it with white tights because coloured tights was definitely her thing (alongside many other accessories!).
  • Outfit Details
  • Shirt - Forever 21
  • Shorts - H&M
  • Tights - Forever 21 (old)
  • Shoes - Aldo (old)
  • Jacket - Laura (old)
  • Hat - H&M (old)
  • Now how adorable is it that the looks go perfectly together?

Lessons from the Upper East Side Part 1

    Thursday, October 20, 2016

I'm SO excited for the newest collab on my blog! This one is with the beautiful Carolina who is a fashion blogger from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) that I met through Instagram. The one thing you can easily notice when you go through Carolina's Instagram is how her style resembles Blair Waldorf. I tweeted out one day how I wanted to do a collab with her with Blair-inspired outfits and that is exactly what we decided to do. We have a total of 4 looks but we decided to show our second look next week :)

Blair was my fashion inspiration for the LONGEST time; she still is to some degree but back then, it was pretty obvious. There was a point in high school where I would wear headbands ALL the time. Since I had a uniform, it was hard to experiment with my fashion choices so I'd usually have a scarf and/or headband to compensate. I had so many that I could wear a new one every day for a few weeks so bringing out some of those old pieces in my closet for this post was really exciting!

    Outfit 1

  • This one screams Blair mainly because of the headband! This is actually an old headband of mine from literally 6 years ago and I thought it was perfect to wear with a suede dress. The gold zipper detailing matches the headband and the colours on the blanket wrap so everything feels very put together. If Gossip Girl was still on, I'm pretty sure Blair would be all over the blanket wrap trend.
  • Outfit Details
  • Dress - Forever 21 (old)
  • Headband - *Handmade from a local boutique*
  • Wrap - Express (similar)
  • Boots - Le Chateau (similar)
  • Here's a sneak peek and the link to Carolina's post for her outfit and stay tuned for next week when we post our second look!

Also, I was featured in Caroflina's latest vlog from the Toronto IMATs party with NYX Cosmetics! Watch the video below and be sure to follow all her social media: Blog, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube.

    How Do You Wear Pink?

    Monday, October 17, 2016

LIFE UPDATE: If you follow me on Twitter, you would've seen a tweet from me saying how I'm cutting back on blog posts for the next few months! I basically just want to focus more on school but rest assured, I have a lot of things planned for my blog and other social media. Enough though there won't be as many posts, I have a bunch of things in the works! I won't be MIA from everything of course, so if you want to keep up with me, Twitter and Instagram are the BEST way. I will do my best to post twice a week but there will definitely be one up weekly (every Monday) :)

For this post, it's more of an announcement of a series that I'm part of versus a regular #OOTD post. My friend Mikayla has a series called "The Pink Life" this October (for breast cancer awareness month) and for my feature, she asked other bloggers and myself "How do you wear pink?" Here's a sneak peek of what I put together but be sure to click here to see the full post!

STYLE MUSE: Olivia Palermo Fashion Month Edition

    Monday, October 10, 2016

I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Olivia Palermo will ALWAYS be one of my biggest style inspirations. I already knew I would love her Autumn 2016 outfits but once I saw her outfits from fashion month, I knew I had to start working on this post soon. The reason it says "fashion month edition" is because I already did a style muse post on her early in the summer so if you WANTED to check out that post (for anyone in like Australia and is actually having a summer or just because), then click here for that! Other than that, hope you love her looks as much as I do!

    Outfit 1

  • The number one thing I love about autumn fashion is the layering! I'm huge on layering so I love how she paired a sleeveless sweater with a long bell-sleeved blouse underneath it. She also colourblocked her outfit with the navy and red pants. To be honest, I would've never thought of pairing navy pants with a dark green top but it totally works!
  • Outfit Details
  • Sweater - Zara
  • Shirt - ASOS
  • Trousers - Zara
  • Necklace - Bauble Bar
  • Outfit 2

  • I love the typical fall colour palette that Olivia wore in most of her outfits during fashion month. For this outfit, she took a basic off the shoulder top design that has been around the past year and dressed it up with the burgundy crochet skirt. Also, the reflective sunnies totally make the outfit become super glam.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - ASOS
  • Skirt - Missguided
  • Shoes - Call it Spring
  • Sunglasses - Aldo
  • Outfit 3

  • I honestly never would've thought about getting a black fur coat if it wasn't for this outfit. I love the grey and brown ones but never thought of getting a black one without feeling the Cruella de Vil vibes. I love the all-black ensemble and how she mixed different textures to take the outfit to the next level. I always think when you're going for a monochromatic look, you should go for different textures and fabrics to give the outfit dimension and of course Olivia displays that flawlessly!
  • Outfit Details
  • Coat - ASOS (alternative)
  • Skirt - H&M
  • Shoes - Zara
  • Outfit 4

  • This outfit is a bit more summery but it's still adorable. Again, it's another example of pattern mixing! The pointed loafers are my favourite and it's totally something you could wear at work to spice up your workwear wardrobe.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Zara
  • Shorts - Old Navy
  • Shoes - ASOS
  • Sunglasses - EyeBuyDirect
  • Leave a comment which outfit was your favourite or who was your favourite street style star during fashion month :)

    $50 Outfit Challenge: Fall Edition

    Monday, October 3, 2016
I used to shop at SheIn a lot a few years ago but stopped because I was cutting back on online shopping. When they approached me to work with them, I was thrilled because it was a store that I've previously shopped at before. Don't get me wrong, I love the collaborations I've had with companies in the past and I'm genuinely thankful for all the amazing things that have come out of my blog. When it's a company that you've shopped at before, it feels even better. One of those "Hey, one of the stores I shop at noticed me" moments.
I was having trouble figuring out how to incorporate an item of clothing into my blog. It could've been a simple #OOTD post but I love trying to make all my #OOTD posts have some kind of purpose. I realized that I loved SheIn because of the affordable price so why not have another $50 Outfit Challenge? My first one was a collab with Dal from Little Beauty Loves that we did for spring and I totally forgot to do one for summer.
SheIn has a huge selection of clothing so I decided to go with this white ruffled blouse. It's a great transition piece for summer to fall fashion. I love that it still incorporates the famous off-the-shoulder trend but the black trim contrast makes it perfect for autumn.
Also, if you know me and also follow Tess Christine, you'd know that I absolutely ADORE her (especially her fashion) and she has a top just like this one so I definitely am feeling the Tess vibes with this top. If you don't know her, you should read my Buzzfeed article that I wrote for Buzzfeed Community! I started to write more fun articles for Buzzfeed because it's the perfect platform when I'm mainly having GIFs in a post. If I'm not posting on my blog, I'm 100% on one of these platforms: Twitter, Instagram and/or Buzzfeed.
I went simple and paired it with an old pair of black ripped jeans from Bluenotes that I got for $20. Lastly, for the shoes I opted for these Bershka slip ons that I got as a gift last year. Like the last $50 outfit challenge, I'm not going to include shoes into the total. So with that being said, the top and the pants total to $45 CAD.
It was a bit cold when taking these photos so I threw on a faux leather jacket from Zara that's obviously not included in the $50 but I wanted to include some of the photos in this post!

Anyways, huge thank you to SheIn for sending me this top. I can't wait to wear it more often and hope you all enjoyed today's post!
