The Simple Upgrade Your Hat Needs

Thursday, September 29, 2016
Over the past year, I've recently grown into a hat obsession. I never thought I would because growing up I absolutely hated hats. I don't know if any of you follow ASOS Stylists on Twitter but I follow Isabella and she always recommends different items she finds on ASOS. ASOS has a huge variety of items and it can be overwhelming going on their website. Isabella picks out INCREDIBLE items and you definitely won't regret it if you follow her. One in particular that I absolutely fell in love with was this Catarzi Wide Brim Pom Fedora.
I think it's insanely adorable but I already owed a grey hat similar in shape that I got from Forever21. The hat was also online and really expensive until I finally thought - why not just bedazzle mine up? It'd be pretty simple making a faux fur clip and being able to take it on and off my hat whenever I please, so that's exactly what I did.
This is very intuitive so I really don't think I need an in-depth explanation but here's a photo of all the materials and where I got each item is listed underneath:
Basically, I used the jewelry pliers to remove the keychain portion from the faux fur ball and then hot glued one alligator clip to it!
  • Faux Fur Ball - Brandy Melville
  • Wool Fedora Hat - Forever 21
  • Jewelry Pliers - Michaels
  • Alligator Clip - Michaels

  • I absolutely love the end result! It gives the outfit a bit of statement but also not very striking. Perfect if you're not comfortable with wearing bold accessories but still want there to be a focal point to your outfit. As for my outfit, I went for a sage waterfall trench coat from ASOS that I got during their summer sale. I love the colour because it's not your typical navy, black, grey or beige trench coat.

    Outfit Details
  • Coat - ASOS
  • Top - Express (old)
  • Jeans - Urban Planet
  • Shoes - Converse

When Pai-Shau first contacted me to try their product, I was both excited and skeptical. There are so many ads on social media, especially Instagram of tea-infused hair products, I wasn’t sure if there would be any difference if I used their products. I wasn’t asked to review this product or anything but because of the results I’ve been getting, I thought it’d be great to share!

To put it simply, Pai-Shau is a >cruelty-free, gluten-free AND vegan friendly hair brand that uses different teas to help rejuvenate your hair. I’ve been consistently using the cleanser and conditioner and I honestly didn’t expect too much of it besides cleaning my hair. I was always intrigued by the idea of tea-infused hair products so even though I wasn’t sure how testing out this product would turn out, I was excited to see what would happen. The packaging came with a product guide which explains briefly about the products and their Signature Exotic Tea Complex so I thought I'd make up a design (that I'm really really proud of) with that info:

Replenishing Hair Cleanser & Replenishing Cream Conditioner

  • A couple of people started to notice my hair getting lighter and once that was pointed out, I started to notice it more and more as I started to use the products more. I decided to ask Pai-Shau’s marketing assistant about it which is when they told me that their signature tea complex helps remove build up from the hair shaft and scalp and ultimately allows your true hair colour to shine. If you know me, you know I complain about the weight of my hair ALL THE TIME. It’s very coarse and it’s one of the reasons I hate wearing my hair up; the weight of it is too much and gives me headaches constantly. Something I noticed after a couple of weeks of using the cleanser and conditioner is that the weight is basically gone and I’ve been able to freely put my hair up and actually last more than a couple of hours with it up. Also, I love how strong the tea smell is. It's not overbearing or anything like that but it's great knowing how organic it is.
  • Imperial Hold Hairspray: Strong Hold Hairspray

  • Strong hold hairspray is right. The weather was not as humid; 22 degrees and 63% humidity to be exact. But I was outside the entire time and was only inside for about an hour and a half of the 9 hours I spent out. Usually my hair dies out within a few hours but I was impressed that after 4 hours, it still looked freshly curled. I apologize for the lighting in the last photo by the way. I may be smiling in it but I was dreading taking it. After a 9 hour day out, taking blog photos (and getting ready for school the next day) was not ideal!
  • Sublime Hold Hairspray: Flexible Hold Hairspray

  • If there's one thing I despise during the summer, it's how humid it can get in Toronto. I love how my hair looks when it's curled but what's the point when it dies out within 15 minutes of stepping outside? On this day, I took photos before I left the house, while I was out and once I got home to have a proper comparison! To be honest, I was highly impressed how long my hair kept it's curl. The humidity was 78% throughout the day and it was 23 degrees Celsius to give you an idea of what the weather was like. I also was outside the entire time!
  • Biphasic Infusion: Rejuvenating Concentrate for Hair

  • I started to use the Biphasic Infusion every night after I shower but also after I curl my hair (and before putting on hairspray). There's two uses for it: using it with damp hair or using it on dry hair in order to make it smooth and shiny. It's not viscous at all compared to the other hair products I have. Most of them are cremes that make my hair feel crunchy whereas the infusion is practically water. Although, I do think instead of having a pump with it, it'd be better if it was in a spray bottle because of the lack of thickness. Other than that, it's a great product to use (especially to add shine after you fix your hair). The photos above (for the hairspray) also how my hair looked after using the infusion if you'd like a visual.

Hope you enjoyed today's post and leave a comment down below if you've ever tried tea-infused hair products/are planning to!

Summer Trends That Are Here to Stay

    Thursday, September 22, 2016

With seasons coming and going, fashion trends are usually the same way and change as the seasons do. With the current summer trends happening, here are ones that will last throughout autumn:

    Bomber Jacket

  • I do love the typical bomber jacket on people but my personal preference are the ones that have embroidery on it and/or contrasting sleeves. I adore embroidery so of course embroidered bomber jackets would be right up my alley!

    Necktie/Bandana Scarf

  • Women love their infinity scarves for fall but I do think that people who loved the necktie scarf trend will continue doing this throughout fall. You can wear the same ones or get a different pattern that fits the typical fall colour palette (aka maroon/burgundy, tan, dark green, etc.)

  • Back in April, I totally wasn't a choker person and I still don't wear chokers all the time BUT the trend has grown on me. I still love the embellished ones more than the plain velvet ones but either way, chokers are something that will last for a while.

    Slip dresses

  • Wearing a t-shirt and slip dress on top was a huge thing in the summer and I think for fall, you could still do the same but with a fitted high neck/mock sweater. Autumn is all about layering!

  • I always found pinstripes as a timeless piece but it's without a doubt that it's been huge this past summer. Having at least one pinstripe dress shirt is an absolute essential in my closet, especially for workwear!

Which summer trend was your favourite that you're going to wear next season? Leave a comment down below!

    #NYFW Favourites: Runway

    Monday, September 19, 2016

I wasn't sure what I wanted to post for NYFW for a while but then I tweeted out how I loved the locations of the NYFW more than the shows and than it hit me. So for today's post I'll be showing my favourite runway shows that I thought had the most unique locations/set up. Ever since the amazing Fendi show at the Trevi Fountain, I feel as if all the designers at NYFW are trying to take their shows to the next level and it definitely showed! I'm one of those people who think that the ambiance of a show or place has just as much importance as the content of whatever is being produced.

Tommy x Gigi at Pier 16

  • THIS WAS AN OBVIOUS. I've tweeted about the #TOMMYXGIGI collection a bit and I was SO excited for the show. I loved the whole carnival idea and the use of Pier 16 as the catwalk. Gigi killed it and I love how Tommy is incorporating the whole "See Now, Buy Now" concept with #TOMMYNOW. So even though this is a AW16 show, I'm still including it. There are so many looks I love from this. I'm not a tank top person but I really love the how the "H" was in a regular serif font and the "G" was made with a rope design. It was like "GH" for Gigi Hadid was hidden and the noticeable "H" was for Hilfiger.
  • Club Monaco at Grand Central Terminal

  • Grand Central Terminal is the busiest place ever so how Club Monaco managed to have their SS17 show at the Vanderbilt Hall is beyond me. Pretty much the entire collection is wearable which is always an issue for me when it comes to fashion month. As much as I love the extravagant kinds of outfits, I love wearable collections much more because it's easier to get inspo from.
  • Rebecca Minkoff in Soho

  • Rebecca Minkoff's show was in the middle of Soho. I love how the looks are very wearable and how even though it was their SS17 show, they still had faux fur collared coats that could be worn this fall/winter season. There were a couple of additional things that made her show flat out awesome: they filmed it in 360 degrees for Youtube so it's as if you were really there AND they had a couple of bloggers walk in the show. I saw that through Chriselle Lim's Instagram and was just stunned because she totally killed it. She is model material.
  • Marc Jacobs at the Hammerstein Ballroom

  • If you're closing NYFW, you gotta make an impression and that's exactly what Marc Jacobs did. He held his show at the Hammerstein Ballroom and it was filled with lights. I'm a sucker for lights. I will visit any restaurant that has cute lights. Even though I wasn't much of a fan of the actual looks, the atmosphere that was created was a great way to end NYFW. Although, I was definitely not a fan of his response about cultural appropriation.
  • Ralph Lauren on Madison Avenue

  • NYC is so packed I honestly do not understand how these companies were able to shut down busy streets for NYFW! Either way, I love it at the end of the day. Ralph Lauren's show was held on Madison Avenue by their flagship store. They ended up building their set around the store. The exterior was made out of glass which is an automatic win in my books. If you know me, glass buildings are one of my favourite types of architecture. Well, to be specific, it's actually deconstructivism (I love Frank Gehry's work) for post-modern architecture and any building that is influenced from different architectural styles and cultural elements like Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. Note: I took a few architecture courses mainly focusing on Renaissance which made me develop a newfound appreciation for architecture.

    B&W Lookbook

    Thursday, September 15, 2016

HI THERE. Before I start this post, I wanted to mention something quickly. Earlier in the week, I found out that I was chosen as one of the top 15 finalists for Elle Canada's Style Search contest. There were over a thousand entries so being one of the top 15 is such a surreal feeling. If you'd like to vote for me to be in the top 3, then click here to vote! You can vote everyday up until September 19 so it'd mean a lot if you took the time to do that. Obviously it doesn't matter if I win or not because being picked through hundreds of people is already an accomplishment!

I'm not one to only wear black and white outfits but lately I've been LOVING it. I'm pretty sure it's because I've been spending a lot of time with one of my favourite people in the world aka Melissa (who pretty much owns only black and white). So I thought, why not have a B&W lookbook? I realized it was another themed lookbook which I don't mind but I wanted to take it to the next level and make it into a collab with a few Canadian bloggers! I always love outdoing myself and trying to constantly improve so this is my way of outdoing my all-white lookbook (which if you follow me on Twitter, you'd know how proud I was of that post). This post will be lengthy one (because of all the photos) but I'm so stoked for you to see all 8 looks! Since Toronto weather is still summer-like, a lot of the looks could be considered both summer and autumn fashion.

    Outfit 1

  • I have had this outfit planned for so long and I'm so excited to finally show it! I've worn it during the summer at work but never had the opportunity to take photos of it (especially at the location I wanted to). Detachable bows have been my thing this summer so this old ASOS one I got from a giveaway was perfect to match with my good ol' Zara lace top!
  • Outfit Details
  • Playsuit - ASOS (old)
  • Top - Zara (colour not available)
  • Bow - ASOS (similar)
  • Shoes - Aldo (old)
  • Outfit 2

  • This is my friend Jianing who I actually met on campus a couple of years ago but only started to hang out recently when we discovered we both were bloggers! She actually has a Youtube channel as well with her friend Lena where they have both beauty and fashion. She went pretty simple with her outfit and wore a black top and shorts but I absolutely love the choker she wore with it.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Aritzia
  • Shorts - Unknown (from Thailand)
  • Watch - Bulova
  • Bag - Mackage
  • Choker - Aldo
  • Sunglasses - EyeBuyDirect
  • Outfit 3

  • This is my friend Ty who is an upcoming blogger! He's wearing a simple black and white sweatshirt which gives such Adidas vibes. He paired it with black pants, black shoes and a white hat to balance out the black and white.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Forever 21
  • Pants -
  • Shoes - Converse
  • Hat - Disney
  • Outfit 4

  • It's Mikayla! If you've been following me on Instagram or my blog, you'll recognize this gem of a friend I have. Seeing her in B&W is actually really odd because she is always in something super girly and pastel! She wore palazzo pants and an off the shoulder top with cute bow details on the sides.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - H&M
  • Pants - H&M
  • Choker - DIY'd
  • Bag - Daily Look (similar)
  • Shoes - Birkenstock
  • Outfit 5

  • I've been wanting to feature this top for so long but had no idea how to incorporate it into my blog for more than a simple #OOTD post. I got it from Preloved Boutique but it's actually from the brand, Parisian Collection. The details on it are absolutely stunning and the tassels at the bottom may be a nuisance at times but it's gorgeous. I also love how it's not a crop top!
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Parisian Collection (via Preloved Boutique)
  • Pants - Topshop
  • Shoes - ASOS
  • Outfit 6

  • If you follow me on Instagram, then you'll realize Catherine! I met her in real life earlier in the summer but connected through Twitter because I saw that she was from Ontario and immediately asked if she was from Toronto haha. Catherine is wearing a simple striped dress from Forever 21 but added a leather jacket that looks INCREDIBLE on her.
  • Outfit Details
  • Dress - Forever 21+
  • Jacket - Addition Elle (similar)
  • Shoes - Call it Spring (similar)
  • Outfit 7

  • Ever since I went to the CO+CO launch, I fell in love with so many pieces; particularly the top you're about to see. I love the contrast trim and the slits on both sides. I wasn't about to spend that much money on it though because real student problems right? When I saw that The Hudson's Bay had a great deal on CO+CO, I immediately jumped at the chance to wear it!
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - CO+CO
  • Pants - Dynamite (old)
  • Shoes - New Look (old)
  • Outfit 8

  • Last but not least, it's my newest blogger friend Kaitlyn! I met her through Catherine after their Cityline taping. She's the cutest thing and I'm so glad she was able to be apart of it. Her outfit literally screams autumn because what's more autumn than a plaid shirt and leggings? I love that her leggings aren't just plain cotton black ones but it has a leather paneled detailing on the side to give the overall outfit more dimension.
  • Outfit Details
  • Top - Forever 21 (similar)
  • Leggings - Dynamite (similar)
  • Shoes - H&M (similar)
  • Hope you enjoyed today's post! I was so excited for it so I hope my friends and I were able to give you a bunch of fashion inspo for this summer-to-fall weather. Be sure to check out all of my friends social medias that were linked because they're all amazing and insanely sweet people :) Lastly, leave a comment down below which outfit(s) are your favourite!
