Get To Know Me: Liebster Award Nominations

Thursday, February 25, 2016
I've been seeing this tag post going around and was glad to be nominated by one of my very first Twitter friends, Jenn! I came across her profile and noticed she was from Toronto like myself and even tweeted her saying that was the reason I followed her. Since then, we've been easily became friends and are trying to find time to meet each other officially! I was also nominated by Miki from Miki a la Mode. Miki is so so so sweet and I met her through Twitter chats. She's currently in California but is also from Toronto. I hope I get to meet her as well whenever she comes back to the city. Since there's a lot of questions, I'll be answering most of them only (since I've been having trouble coming up with some answers for a few questions!) so be prepared for a lengthy post.

Here are a few rules associated with the Liebster Award:

  • 1. Thank the person who nominated you and post a link to their blog in your post.
  • 2. Answer the questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  • 3. Nominate 5 -11 bloggers that you feel deserve the award (typically people pick bloggers who have less than 1000 followers)
  • 4. Create a list of new questions for your nominees to answer.
  • 5. Once your blog is published, let your nominees know that they have been nominated & link them to your post for more details.

What is your #1 source for inspiration? Could be for blogging, getting up in the morning, anything!

  • For blogging, I usually look at Instagram and Tumblr. I don't purposely go on social media for inspiration, it usually comes at random times to be honest! I'm going to sound crazy but whenever I'm alone, I have conversations with myself and end up trailing off into different topics and think of new posts.
  • What is your favourite season?

  • AUTUMN, without a doubt. I feel like a majority of females love fall but it's just so gorgeous. I love autumn in Toronto because it gets a bit chilly and having all the leaves change colours makes everything in the city extra pretty. I love being able to wear some layers because 1) Canadian winters can be really cold and I don't want to layer THAT much and 2) Spring/Summer can get so warm and I'm not someone who loves to wears shorts and crop tops.
  • Drink of choice?

  • I'm so lame but I always get water. I used to like soda as a kid, I'm not a fan of caffeine
  • Which actor/actress would be cast as yourself, in a movie of your life?

  • She doesn't look like me at all but Bailee Madison. If you guys don't know, I absolutely LOVE this girl. We met in Toronto last month as well and hanging out with her confirmed how we are so similar. When my little sister asked me to tell her my experience meeting Bailee, she's like "She's exactly like you." Long story short, the way Bailee takes her Instagram photos is exactly how I would. If you noticed in a photo of her at NYFW and she's taking a group selfie but is using another phone's flashlight for added light. That is basically me. I recently received TRESemmé products (be on the lookout for that post on Monday!) and as I was trying to take photos of it in my room (where there is literally NO light), I was holding my phone for an aerial shot, while holding a lamp in my other hand. My sister was watching me as I took those photos and was laughing the whole time. Anyways, Bailee is the sweetest and has the most beautiful soul ever so I would of course choose her because she'd be able to channel myself PERFECTLY. Inserting a couple of photos of us because, why not? (PS: Appreciate the snow on our hair because we purposely chose to take these photos outside)
  • What is the strongest dream that you can remember?

  • All my dreams are weird. I can't remember anything at the moment but I can tell you one minute I'll be getting pushed into a cave in Egypt but the next minute I'm in the city. It's very random and I'll have a vivid memory of it for like a few hours and I'll forget it instantly if I don't tell someone right away.
  • If you could pick anywhere in the world to live, where would you go and why?

  • Probably Paris. I mean, Europe in general is gorgeous and seems more like my element in terms of living but visiting France has always been a dream of mine so I'd probably choose that country over any other one in the world.
  • List 3 words to describe yourself.

  • Determined: Whenever I set my mind onto something, I will always put my heart and soul into it.
  • Caring: Even if I haven't known you for a while, you can always come to me for advice or a casual conversation. Even if you need someone to only listen to you, I'll do it.
  • Supportive: I love seeing people trying to achieve their dreams. It's such a great feeling when you're able to see someone's passion for whatever they want to do. I'm always supportive for whatever goals and dreams my friends and family have set for themselves. There was one time I didn't compliment my friend's singing voice for a while so when she posted a cover, I texted her a short paragraph saying how much I love her voice.
  • What advice would you give for future bloggers, or any blogger in general? New and veterans!

  • For future bloggers, I'd tell them that they should go for it. I know I didn't start a blog because it was terrifying putting myself out there but the blogging community is incredibly supportive and sweet. It's great knowing people who have the same interests as you.

How did you get into blogging?

  • In 2010, I used to go on Chictopia and Lookbook ALL THE TIME. I started to get fashion inspiration from it but because I went to a Catholic high school, I wore a uniform so I didn't have the opportunity to experiment with clothing as much as I wanted to. Now that I've been blogging, I feel like I'm able to step outside my comfort zone even more so because I have that freedom now that I'm in university.
  • What are some bloggers that inspire you?

  • SO EASY. Number one would definitely be Julia Engel from Gal Meets Glam - I love her feminine and elegant style. Her recent collaboration with Bauble Bar was one of my favourites they've ever done! Another one is Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad - she's very experimental with her outfits but she always owns it which is my favourite part. She's not afraid to try new things. My last favourite is Kristina Bazan from Kayture. I've loved her outfits for a while now but I love seeing her Snapchats more. She has a wonderful personality and is always having a great time. If you didn't know, besides being a gorgeous model and ambassador for many brands, SHE SINGS. Not just, "better than average" singing but one of those soothing and calming voices. If you haven't heard her sing, definitely check out the short film she did with Mugler!
  • What has been your favorite travel destination? And, where do you want to go next?

  • My favourite to this day has been NYC. I haven't traveled SO much but anywhere in Europe is really the dream. I've always wanted to go to France, Italy, Greece, Spain and England.
  • Do you have a blogging schedule? What days have you found to be the best to publish your work?

  • I post on Mondays and Thursdays. I find that those days work out the best for me mainly because a lot of people are online for Twitter chats!
  • What are some of your favorite social media & editing apps?

  • Twitter is by far my all-time fav. My current account, @AdrienneNaval shows that I've only had it since January 2014 but I did have another one from 2009 (which is on private and have not deactivated it because I'm sentimental over my Justin Bieber follow on there haha). I also love Instagram; I don't post a lot but I'm ALWAYS scrolling through it. As for editing apps, VSCO is like my holy grail. I love being able to pre-plan my Instagram and seeing how my photos look with the rest of my feed.
  • What is the top activity you do to drive traffic to your blog?

  • Twitter. I haven't utilized other apps like Instagram for traffic on my blog. Once I do that, EVERYONE in my life will find out about my blog which I'm not quite ready for yet. I like having it as my little secret for now. Some of them do know but I have no clue if they've read it and if they have and are currently reading this, HEY FRIENDS I LOVE YOU.
  • Can you share a couple of dream collaborations you’d want for your blog?

  • HANDS DOWN COLLABORATING WITH JULIA ENGEL. She's my birthday twin and she's the blogger I get the MOST inspiration from. Company-wise, I would love to collaborate with ASOS and/or Bauble Bar. ASOS carries a variety of brands from high to low and no matter what style you have, you can find great pieces there. They also help introduce me to new brands since it is a UK online store, there's a bunch of brands we don't have here in Canada. Bauble Bar has guest bartenders and a lot of people I look up to have collaborated with them (like Julia Engel, Wendy's Lookbook, Olivia Palermo and Ingrid Nilsen) so it'd be awesome to follow in their footsteps. Also, I've mentioned this before but they have such an incredible customer service team so I can only imagine that the rest of the employees they are just as kind and sweet like their SWAT team.
  • What’s your next big purchase?

  • I'm hoping my next big purchase will be a new DSLR. I've been planning on upgrading the camera body I have now (Nikon D3000) to the D5300 since it was released. I use my dad's Canon 60D but not for blogging. I mainly want to upgrade to a more advanced DSLR with video (possibly for Youtube if I ever decide to try it out) but one that's not insanely heavy like the 60D. Carrying camera equipment around the city tires me out a lot.
  • What are some online sites you get amazing deals for beauty, fashion or for your blog?

  • For makeup, I'm a drugstore kind of gal and I also mainly wear lipstick and eyebrow products only. For fashion, ASOS and Zara are my go-to. I love love love all their stuff and find that it's most fitting to my style.

  • A lot of people I talk to have been nominated already so it's totally cool if you don't answer these or because you're not into tag posts but:
  • Lisa from Mostly Lisa
  • Rai from Utter Ardour
  • Krystal-Marie from Embrace and Ignite
  • Sally from My Practical Blog
  • Annie from Annie's Percception
  • Charlie from Charlie CP
  • 1) What's your favourite part about the blogging community?
  • 2) What is your dream career?
  • 3) Would you consider blogging full-time?
  • 4) If you had to choose one brand of makeup and one brand of clothing to wear for the rest of your life, which brands would you choose and why?
  • 5) Are there any beauty, hair and fashion trends you're looking forward to?
  • 6) Do you like binge-watching on Netflix? If so, what are you currently watching?
  • 7) Name a couple of your hobbies besides blogging or name something you're interested in learning.
  • 8) Who are your top 5 people you gain inspiration from on Instagram?
  • 9) What are the last 5 songs you listened to?
  • 10) Do you have a bucket list? If so, what's the oddest/weirdest/silliest thing on that list? (Mine would be strutting down Barcelona while listening to Strut by the Cheetah Girls or milking a cow)
  • Hope you enjoyed my answers and got a sneak peek into my life!

    Go-To Outfits: Winter Edition

    Monday, February 22, 2016
I think most people can agree that although you may have a variety of choices in your closet, you end up choosing the same things over and over again. Especially when you're attending school, the struggle to prepare a great outfit is hard. I was lucky (in a way) to attend a high school that had uniforms so I never had to deal with that issue as much as I do now. Now that I'm in university, what is my favourite is that I can wear the same outfit the next week but on another day where I don't see the same people in my classes haha. I've had this idea of "go-to outfits" for a while but I thought posting a winter edition would be the most beneficial because now that it is finally feeling like winter, you tend to wear your warmest items. I know when I look at the weather, once I see -10 degrees Celsius or something like that, I grab one of the outfits below without even caring if I've worn it before. This year's winter in Toronto has been completely random. It was quite nice for most of it and in January it got cold, then warm again and now it's -20 to -30 weather. Anyways, here are my top 3 go-to outfits I've been wearing this season!

    Outfit 1

  • Capes have been a favourite of mine for over a year already and this one from Express is without a doubt my favourite one. I love the colour combinations and how it kind of has that Burberry vibe to it. Along with the photos I took specifically for this post, I also wanted to show that I wore it to meet Fashion Santa. It was a priority to my holiday festivities that I had to show it!
  • Outfit Details
  • Cashmere Sweater - Lord and Taylor (via Hudson's Bay)
  • Jeans - American Eagle
  • Cape - Express
  • Shoes - Timberland (similar)
  • Outfit 2

  • I've been searching for a fur vest for over a year but finding a faux fur vest that didn't feel so fake was difficult. It was really important for me to find one that felt and looked soft. I fortunately won a $50 gift card to M for Mendocino and found this one (that's also available at ASOS), I knew I had to get it. I've waited so long and there was only one left in my size. I've worn this outfit quite a few times over the past 2 months and what I love most about it is that it's incredibly warm but stylish at the same time. Although, this outfit can be TOO warm. I recently wore it at school and felt dehydrated because I was sweating for most of the day.
  • Outfit Details
  • Sweater - H&M (similar)
  • Faux Fur Vest - Vero Moda (available at ASOS and M for Mendocino) (similar)
  • Denim X Jeans - American Eagle (similar)
  • Shoes - Timberland (similar)
  • Outfit 3

  • For this outfit, I love how easily a statement necklace can glam up an outfit. I've worn this outfit with the necklace and definitely didn't feel as stylish as I do with it. There's actually a bunch of layers underneath the sweater but I made sure everything was tucked in so it went unnoticed. I usually wear a camisole and long sleeve t-shirt underneath everything so in total I have 4 layers for the top.

  • Sweater - New Look
  • Shirt - Gap
  • Jeans - Bluenotes
  • Necklace - Bauble Bar
  • Travel Essentials & Safety Tips

    Monday, February 15, 2016
Travelling around the world is something that I think a majority of people want to do. There's so much to see and I love how there's a new cultural experience wherever you go. I know I'd love to visit practically everywhere in the world so I can see everything I've learned about in my university courses in real life. I've always been a visual learner but I think you appreciate things more when you see it for yourself rather than learning it from a textbook or seeing it on slideshows. With reading week coming up for a majority of post-secondary students in Ontario, I thought showing you what I find are travel essentials would be perfect. I'm definitely not someone who likes to bring impractical items on a trip but more of someone who takes precaution. Here are my top 4:
    1) RFID Case/Card Case Wallet
  • This is something I have to thank my parents for telling me about. We always like to take precautions to avoid losing anything when we're on vacation, whether it be tagging our luggage for it to stand out or simply labeling our most important items. When you travel, you carry extremely important documents and cards with you that would be a pain to replace if anything were to happen to it. I would recommend bringing only the cards you will be using instead. Also, there are some wallets that have RFID theft protection in order to prevent identity theft. These kinds of items can be pricey but are definitely worth the investment. If you cannot afford that, they do sell RFID cases that are very affordable that are designed to hold up to two cards. Here's a video below that explains a bit about RFID protected technology:

  • 2) 4-wheel luggage
  • Until recently, I never noticed how much better it is to travel with a 4-wheel luggage versus the 2-wheel one I've been used to my whole life. Long story short, it makes it much easier to travel with. So if you're still using a 2-wheel, definitely think about upgrading to a 4-wheel luggage.

  • 3) Portable USB Charger/Battery Pack Phone Case
  • If you travel like my family, you probably go out all day and don't have time to go back to the hotel to charge your phone. I think having a portable USB charger or a charging case for your phone is important regardless if you're travelling or not. Since a majority of people are using their phones when they're out, being able to charge it while you're on the go is perfect!

  • 4) Tile Item Tracker
  • I recently found out about Tile through my sister. This device is a tracker you can attach on anything you'd like (ex. keys, camera, etc.) and you can access where it is on an app you download after you connect the device to it. It does rely on Bluetooth and also works up to 100' away. My favourite part about it is that you besides seeing it's location on the app, you can also enable it to make a noise so it's easier for you to find. This is definitely an item you'd want to have when travelling or just on an everyday basis.

    STYLE MUSE: Gigi Hadid

    Monday, February 8, 2016
Gigi's stylist is amazing. Plain and simple. Her street style is one of my favourites. There are a quite a number of outfits she's worn recently that I am totally in love with which is why she is my latest style muse. Here's how to get the look for my top 5 street style looks from her!

    Outfit 1

  • Okay, this is hands down, without a doubt my favourite Gigi Hadid look. She wore this during Haute Couture week in Paris and totally killed it both on the runway and off. I don't like the overly ripped jeans look but on Gigi, it looks amazing and makes me want to buy a pair. Don't be surprised if I wear an outfit just like this in the future, I love it that much. It was hard to find a top similar to Gigi's. I know there is one at Topshop but was sold out pretty quickly. A way you can achieve this look is by wearing a white v-neck blouse and either tying a white skinny scarf around your neck or you can even use a white ribbon and make your own choker necklace!

  • Coat - New Look
  • Top - Forever 21 (similar)
  • Scarf - ASOS
  • Jeans - Forever 21
  • Shoes - Call it Spring
  • Outfit 2

  • I honestly did not think Gigi could top this outfit at first. It was my favourite until I saw the photos of her at Haute Couture week. My favourite part about this is how it's a monochrome outfit but her pink sunglasses are the statement piece. Your eyes are easily drawn to the side slit in her dress and to her sunglasses. Not too many stores offer a satin maxi/midi shirt dress with a high slit like Gigi's Self Portrait dress. To achieve this look, I found a midi skirt from Boohoo with a side slit and a button up faux suede shirt from Forever 21. Pair it with a camel duster coat and you are good to go! I couldn't find the exact shade to match Gigi's but the items definitely give off the same vibe!
  • Outfit Details
  • Coat - Boohoo
  • Top - Forever 21
  • Skirt - Boohoo
  • Shoes - Call it Spring
  • Outfit 3

  • I've been loving the (faux) fur trend going on. It honestly can glam up any simple outfit. I love the colour of Gigi's coat because while it's not your typical brown or grey fur, it's still pretty neutral and can go with almost anything.
  • Outfit Details
  • Sweater - Forever 21
  • Coat - Forever 21
  • Jeans - ASOS
  • Shoes - Call it Spring
  • Outfit 4

  • For this outfit, I opted to show a faux fur coat and a faux shearling coat from Forever 21 that still gives off the same vibe. I love seeing "winter white" looks because it just goes to show that you don't need to wear dark colours all throughout winter.
  • Outfit Details
  • Coat - Forever 21 (alternative)
  • Top - Forever 21
  • Jeans - Forever 21
  • Shoes - Nike
  • Outfit 5

  • I love simple but chic this outfit is. It's another monochrome outfit but a casual take on it. My favourite part of this outfit are the drawstring bottoms. It's such a casual piece that you wouldn't expect to be part of such a fab outfit. Also, you can pair the outfit with either a grey coat or a grey blanket scarf and it'll still be a cozy outfit at the end!
  • Outfit Details
  • Coat - Forever 21
  • Sweater - New Look
  • Joggers - Old Navy
  • Boots - Steve Madden

    A Winterlicious Valentine's Day

    Thursday, February 4, 2016
LOVE IS IN THE AIR. Valentine's Day is slowly approaching and maybe you have a date that you're trying to find that perfect outfit for? Or just simply looking for some more outfit inspo. Whatever your reason is, I think you'll enjoy this outfit as much as I do.

This past weekend was the start of Toronto's Winterlicious. If you're not sure what that is for you fellow Torontonians, it's described as a "culinary celebration". Hundreds of restaurants (including many high-end ones) offer a prix fixe menu for lunch and dinner. Lunch ranges from $18-$25 whereas dinner range from $25-$45. My boyfriend and I decided to go one of the Oliver and Bonacini establishments, America. I think my favourite part of the restaurant was the decor - especially the washroom. I usually don't stage my photos that much for Instagram but when I went to the washroom and saw the Audrey Hepburn quote on the wall, I knew I had to take a photo. There actually was towelettes and a box of Kleenex on the glass shelf which I ended up moving just for the photo. Thankfully my boyfriend didn't notice how long I was in there for.

I've been waiting over a year to wear this outfit. I received the skirt as a Christmas present from my parents in 2014 and have been trying to find the perfect pieces to go with it since then. Now that I finally purchased all the pieces of this ensemble, no better place to have it than a Valentine's Day Lookbook! I absolutely adore the gold lip prints, there's just something about gold print on black that draws my attention. The weather was warmer than usual but it was also windy so that is why my hair isn't perfectly placed and why I don't have as many photos as I'd like!

A little behind the scenes of taking photos:

  • Valentine's Day Gift Guide: For Him

    Monday, February 1, 2016
Instead of giving the same talk in my last post, "Valentine's Day Gift Guide: For Her", let's just go straight into it:

    1) Cologne

  • Does any one else feel like men don't know that there's more cologne options besides Axe? It's as if every guy smells the same to me! I love myself a good sophisticated scent. Anything that's not sweet would probably be considered sophisticated to me (to be completely honest). For females, I recommended the 1954 perfume by Fossil and they also have a version for males that I love as well! Considering I don't smell men's cologne often, I don't want to recommend any others since I haven't personally smelled it myself!
  • 2) Framed Photo/Shadow Box

  • This is probably a cheesy idea but hey, I did this for my boyfriend for Christmas and he loved it. We usually have 2-part gifts where one is hand-made so for Christmas 2015, I decided to make buy a shadow box from Michaels and put some old photographs of us as the background. Since it is a shadow box, I put some things that I've collected over the past few years we've been dating like movie tickets, admission tickets and any other knick-knacks that have some meaning or memory behind it. Another idea is to frame a photo of something or some place that means something to either both of you or to your partner! You can even frame their artwork if that's something they do.
  • 3) Customize his favourite desserts

  • It's a simple fact that guys love food. So a cute idea for Valentine's Day is to make his favourite desserts and customize them! Maybe write even have a secret message. Oh, like have a sentence that has a letter on each cupcake and scramble it up and then let him try to decode the message? Either way, it'll be fun for both of you because at the end you'll get to eat desserts and who doesn't love that?
  • 4) Tickets to his favourite band/sports team

  • If you listen to your significant other/partner, it becomes really easy to buy a gift for them. Always consider their interests when thinking of a gift. Something common that men would enjoy would be tickets to their favourite band or sports team.
  • 5) (Monogrammed) Wallet

  • Has anyone else noticed that practically ever male on the universe owns the exact same black wallet? I do not have a single male friend that has something different. To make it a bit more personal, you could get it monogrammed with their initials or even put a photo of you two together!
  • In reality, all of the gift ideas I've said in both of my gift guides really could be applied to any gender so don't feel as if you could only get a guy ___ and a girl ___. These gifts are definitely interchangeable and I hope you enjoyed it! Leave a comment below what you're planning on getting someone for Valentine's if you're celebrating with someone or if you're not, tell me what you'll be doing!
