Valentine's Day Gift Guide: For Her

Thursday, January 28, 2016
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd make another gift guide post because people enjoyed my Christmas ones! If you're buying a Valentine's gift for someone, you probably have a close relationship with them (I mean, most people who do celebrate Valentine's Day are couples or close friends). For some reason, I always find Valentine's Day gifts much harder to shop for than any other occassion. Personally, for Valentine's Day, I like to make gifts very personable, meaningful and intimate (I don't necessarily mean in a sexy way haha), more so than for any other occasion. I decided to pick out 5 gifts for her for this post and (hopefully) next Monday's post, the gift guide for men will be up!

1) Perfume

  • Perfume is such a personal thing to shop for. Everyone has a different taste so this gift may be either really easy to shop for or really difficult. For me, my absolute FAVOURITE perfume is actually from a place you wouldn't expect--it's Fossil's 1954 fragrance. Not a lot of people associate Fossil with fragrance since they are known for their watches. The scent is absolutely incredible and you should definitely check it out. I think it's a scene that everyone would love! If it isn't your taste, definitely check out Sephora for their roller balls and travel sizes for more scents.
  • 2) Personalized Relaxation Kit

  • I'm sure all females (and even males) would love this idea. Relaxing and forgetting about all your troubles for a bit is just the best kind of stress relief. I'm all about retail therapy but if I had a larger bath tub, you bet I would be using all the Lush bath bombs I could possibly get. What's great about this is that you can personalize it to your significant other's/friend's taste. Include her favourite products like her favourite bath bomb, a scented candle, candy or even get her a new book to go along with this. You can easily purchase a basket at Michaels as well to put everything in. Cost-saving tip: Michael's has weekly coupons online where you can get 40% or 50% off one regular priced item. It changes each week but there's always one where it's either 40% or 50% off. Finally, below are a few items I would include if I were gifting this to someone!
  • 3) Monogram Jewelry/Pandora Charm

  • No matter what occasion it is, I always want to receive a monogram necklace; it's seriously been on my wishlist for so long. Specifically, I love this one from Bauble Bar. I love the ribbon letter detailing versus getting your full name. I think this kind of personalized necklace makes it very elegant and also it great to wear everyday. Bauble Bar actually has a personalized section on their website that offers a variety of choices from necklaces to bracelets and more. I personally love their company and they also have amazing customer service so if anything goes wrong, their SWAT team will be more than happy to help. (This totally sounds sponsored but I actually just genuinely love the company).
  • Another idea for jewelry is to get a Pandora charm if your significant other owns a Pandora bracelet (or even get a bracelet with a charm!). Pandora has a massive collection of charms with a variety of colours. The best part about it is how you can buy charms that have a certain meaning. They also always have a Valentine's Day collection you can shop through. My favourites from this year's collection are: Filled with Romance, Wild Hearts and Love is Forever
  • 4) Spa or Mani/Pedi Package

  • This kind of goes hand-in-hand with the personalized relaxation kit. There's just something about getting a manicure and pedicure that's so refreshing. Every girl would love to distress by getting a mani/pedi or having a day at the spa. Spa days are perfect because you really get to forget about the outside world and can focus on relaxing. A lot of spas also offer couples massages and packages so you could make it a date if you'd like!
  • 5) Romantic Night In/Out

  • Probably a classic idea but a night in or a night out is always a great idea. You don't necessarily have to buy something for a gift, instead you can do something new and go for a classy candle lit dinner afterwards. There are so many activities you could consider like going for paint night, trying a new restaurant out or even going to where you had your first date. Either way, making memories will last longer so if you can't afford to spend money on a gift, remember you can easily create memories with that special someone.

    STYLE STEAL: Taylor Swift

    Thursday, January 21, 2016
To this day, this is my favourite winter outfit that Taylor has worn! I swear ever since she moved to New York, her style has been amazing (and also affordable sometimes). I love that she doesn't shop purely high-end and that there are so many great outfits she's worn from stores like Forever 21 and H&M. I remember last year, her Topshop cape was sold out and I was searching everywhere for something similar. I found one from Lord & Taylor but unfortunately it didn't have the colour I wanted when it went on sale! Luckily, Shop Hopes released this cape that is spot on if you're looking for inspiration from Taylor's outfit. As for her top underneath, pretty much any kind would do considering the cape covers you up! Scroll down for the other key pieces to this outfit and click the photo to redirect you to the item on the website!

UPDATE: The Plaid Ruana I mentioned from Lord & Taylor is available at Hudson's Bay for only $34.00 CAD!

Workwear: Inspired by The 100 Cast | TCA

    Monday, January 18, 2016
If you haven't heard of The 100 and you're into sci-fi, this is a must see for you. Even if you're not, you should definitely give this show a chance. It's a post-apocalyptic show that takes place in the future where one hundred juveniles are sent to Earth to see if it is survivable (because they have been living in space and are running out of oxygen). They find out there are other inhabitants and it basically shows the struggle of co-existing with one another. What I love most about this show are the strong and empowering female characters they have.

With that aside, the leading ladies of the show looked absolutely incredible at the TCAs. All of their outfits can be considered work-wear (depending on your field of work) and they are fairly easy to achieve the same look!

  • I think Eliza is a hilarious person off-screen and also has other talents beyond acting (like singing). She took a simple black top and paired it with an asymmetrical skirt with patterned detailing. The asymmetrical cut was not over exaggerated making it still work-wear appropriate. She also wore a pair of ankle strap heels which I think is perfect substitute for people who are not too fond of classic pumps.

  • Top - Forever 21
  • Skirt - Forever 21
  • Shoes - Call it Spring

  • My ultimate girl crush is always killing it with her outfits. Although you may not be able to wear coated/leather-like jeans to the workplace, you could easily switch them to skinny trousers to get a similar look!

  • Shoes - H&M

  • Lindsey is insanely photogenic (as all the other cast members are). I love how she had such a simple outfit but wore a dark berry lip.

  • Top - Zara
  • Trousers - Dynamite

  • Alycia's outfit is without a doubt my favourite. I love how it's not a typical "dress shirt and trousers" outfit because of the cut of the dress shirt giving it a modern edge. She paired them with black and white loafers which makes it more fun but maintains that level of professionalism.

  • Top - ASOS
  • Trousers - Dynamite
  • Shoes - Blink (via ASOS) (alternative)

  • I love the Victorian feel to frilly/ruffled blouses! It adds so much more to just a regular white dress shirt but is also just as versatile like a plain dress shirt!

  • Top - Zara
  • Pants - H&M
  • Shoes - Steve Madden

  • I prefer gold or silver plated buttons like Adina's jacket because to me it gives off a more classy and elegant look. I love how it's paired with a high-waisted belt in order to accentuate your curves! Unfortunately, I couldn't find a belt with silver hardware.

  • Belt - Topshop (alternative)

    Winter Formal Ideas 2016

    Monday, January 11, 2016
There are so many formal events that can take place during the winter but if you're someone who lives in a cold climate, how do you dress formal and keep warm at the same time? I always hated wearing a formal outfit but have it ruined by wearing a huge and puffy coat so I could keep warm. Here are the kind of outfits I would wear if I had to wear any kind of formal attire for let's say a wedding, semi-formal, etc.

    Outfit 1

  • There are so many reasons I'm obsessed with this outfit. First of all, this isn't a dress, it's a gorgeous skirt and top. It's the perfect two-piece set that I have ever seen. The details on the back of the top is unique and you'll definitely be receiving compliments with it! I love how two-piece sets are so versatile. Since this is a winter formal post, I couldn't help myself by not adding a faux fur coat for this outfit.

  • Skirt - Express
  • Top - Express
  • Bag - New Look
  • Shoes - Zara
  • Outfit 2

  • Whenever I think of formal attire in the winter, I can't help but think of silver and metallics (I'm always thinking it'd look gorgeous at a winter ball, like Pretty Little Liar's Iceball). To keep up with the monochrome effect, I thought a grey coat and silver shoes would go perfect with this stunning dress from Sister Jane!

  • Coat - Aritzia
  • Shoes - ASOS
  • Outfit 3

  • As much as I love colour, I do tend to lean more towards darker colours in the winter. I also understand how it's hard to wear dresses and skirts in colder climates so jumpsuits are always the way to go (I've probably said that before!). I love this one that I found from ASOS. What's great about them is that they're not tight fitting on the legs and it's not sheer in any way so you can probably wear a pair of leggings underneath for added warmth!

  • Coat - JDY (via ASOS)
  • Shoes - Forever 21
  • Outfit 4

  • I am so weak for two-piece set. I swear you can wear them at any time of the year. What I love so much about this outfit is that they're simple items that you can wear all-year round (like the turtleneck top and ankle booties). You can easily dress up an outfit by adding jewelry. Bauble Bar is my favourite place to get jewelry because it has affordable and chic designs but also they have amazing customer service. I have had experiences when my jewelry pieces broke and they were quickly able to help.

  • Blazer - ASOS
  • Top - Zara
  • Skirt - ASOS
  • Necklace - Bauble Bar
  • Shoes - H&M
  • Outfit 5

  • For the girl who loves colour no matter what season it is, this H&M dress is too cute for words. Wear some tights, over the knee boats and a simple peacoat and you're good to go!

    Black Moth Beauty

    Monday, January 4, 2016
Totally apologize for not posting but exams and the holidays took over and I did not have time to have quality posts that I was happy with! Anyways, I visited the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery to specifically see an exhibit from Carlos Amorales. A short hallway was filled with 30,000 black moths; almost every single moth had an unique shape.
As for my outfit, since the weather in Toronto has been much warmer than usually, I worn a classic sweater and skirt combo with a cashmere blend tights from H&M. I definitely would recommend getting tights with a cashmere blend because it is much warmer than typical 20-den tights. Fortunately, this pair has 9% cashmere compared to many others that I found at other stores that only had 2% (and were more expensive).
    Outfit Details
  • Sweater - Zara
  • Skirt - Zara
  • Tights - H&M
  • Shoes - Le Chateau
  • Bag - New Look
  • Jacket - Laura
